WASHINGTON—The Obama administration lashed out Thursday at North Korea's leaders after an American citizen was sentenced to 15 years of hard labor for unspecified "hostile acts" against the country, and demanded his release. The sentencing of Kenneth Bae, a 44-year-old tour operator based in Washington state, came after he was tried Tuesday by North Korea's highest court, state news agency Korean Central News Agency reported in a brief dispatch Thursday. U.S. officials have worked through the Swedish Embassy in Pyongyang to gain information about Mr. Bae, and said they had not confirmed the sentence through those channels. The Obama administration demanded through the State Department that Mr. Bae be granted amnesty and released.
